Bringing home a newly adopted pet is exciting -- here's how to make the first weeks easier for everyone.
Bringing home a newly adopted pet is one of the most exciting days of the year -- for you and for them. The first few weeks matter more than most people expect, so we put together our top five tips from years of post-adoption support.
1. Set up a quiet space before they arrive. A crate, bed, or blanket in a low-traffic room gives your new pet somewhere to decompress. 2. Stick to a simple routine. Predictable feeding and walk times build trust faster than anything else. 3. Go slow with introductions -- to people, other pets, and new environments. 4. Expect an adjustment period. Most pets need two to four weeks to start showing their real personality. 5. Stay in touch with us. Our adoption counselors are always available for advice during the transition.
